Species: Satyrid Butterfly | Location: Monteverde, Costa Rica
Butterflies are amazingly adapted to life in the undergrowth. Blending into leaves, they remain hidden from predators with amazing stealth. But then with a flash of brilliance on the upper side of their wings they can startle any curious predator, leaving it in the dust during the split second of confusion. On Nat Hab's Natural Jewels of Costa Rica trip, we were able to see exotic butterflies and a variety of other wildlife at the Santuario Ecologico in Monteverde.
About The Photographer
Eric's illustrious career began in Alaska in 1989, where he worked as a field researcher on many of the state’s diverse animal species, including river otters, waterfowl, moose and reindeer.
