Species: Southern Elephant Seal | Location: St. Andrew's Bay, South Georgia Island, Antarctica
Our group was brought ashore just after sunrise at St. Andrew's Bay in South Georgia. Most of the group turned to the left to head to the king penguin colony, but I turned right. I spotted some male elephant seals just hanging out near the end of the beach. While I was observing them, two bulls began sparring. I got the camera ready just as the sparring turned into a true fight. The battle was on! It only lasted about two minutes and did end with a bite that drew blood. The loser moved off and everything settled down again.

About The Photographer
I'm a world traveler who has been traveling the globe for the past 15 years, visiting places that are being most impacted by global warming. My initial photography interest was in macros of plants and flowers, but once I obtained a longer lens, I became an avid wildlife photographer. I enjoy visiting off-the-beaten-path places and capturing images of the flora and fauna. I also enjoy sharing these images and experiences with others through my web site and personal presentations.
