For its habitat, the burrowing owl often uses holes that have been dug by prairie dogs and skunks. Occasionally, it will dig its own. They are known for being more terrestrial than any other North American owl, and are found on the ground in open fields—goes along with their name and living in holes. Notable features include large yellow eyes and the absence of ear tufts.
