Species: Grizzly Bear and Sockeye Salmon | Location: Katmai, Alaska, United States
While attempting to capture grizzlies catching leaping sockeye salmon at the top of Brooks Falls in Katmai, Alaska, about one in fifteen leapers actually had leaps that were athletically adequate to reach the top of the falls. There was frequently 30 seconds or so between leaps, and occasionally two would leap at the same time. This image captured five salmon all leaping within the same second of time with a forlorn Grizzly only able to watch from being in the wrong location. This photo was taken on a trip to Alaska with Nat Hab.
