Species: Wildebeest | Location: North Serengeti National Park, Tanzania
Although I had been to Africa several times, I had never seen the great migration of the wildebeest. It turns out that the migration is a misnomer of sorts because each crossing involves a separate group of animals. Large herds of wildebeest cover the banks of the Mara River, milling around for long period of time and braying. One cow would test the waters and then return to the bank. We had decided nothing was going to happen, so we retreated for a camp breakfast. Then one of the people in the safari vehicle looked through his binoculars and called, "They're in." We dropped everything and returned to the bank to see the crossing!
About The Photographer
Travel and photography are my two main hobbies. I have been fortunate to photograph wildlife in Africa, America's national parks, polar bears in Manitoba, and now Antarctica.
