Bonding

Species: Weddell Seal | Location: Larsen Harbor, South Georgia, Antarctica

We were on a trip to South Georgia, Antarctica, where the weather was a constant challenge. On this afternoon we were seeking shelter from high winds in Larsen Harbor. The group was on a zodiac tour when a Weddell seal with a pup was spotted. The pup was fairly active, having just suckled. It was playing in the snow and tunneling through it. It never strayed far from mom, though, and came back numerous times to make sure she was still there. I was able to capture one of those moments.

About The Photographer

I'm a world traveler who has been traveling the globe for the past 15 years, visiting places that are being most impacted by global warming. My initial photography interest was in macros of plants and flowers, but once I obtained a longer lens, I became an avid wildlife photographer. I enjoy visiting off-the-beaten-path places and capturing images of the flora and fauna. I also enjoy sharing these images and experiences with others through my web site and personal presentations.
