Species: Humpback Whale | Location: San Juan Islands, United States
A humpback whale photographed breaching, off the coast of the San Juan Islands in Washington state. Whales breach for a number of reasons - they could be trying to shake parasites off their skin, trying to scratch an itch, or they often breach as a means of communication with one another.
