Species: Lion | Location: Okavango Delta, Botswana
We unexpectedly came upon this lion early one morning in Botswana, crouching in the grass and protecting his meal - a dead zebra - from other predators. From his look, it would appear we may have been seen as one of those predators. Interestingly enough, female lions (aka lionesses) are the primary hunters, stalking their prey through plains, savannah, and grasslands. The lion population has been reduced in half since 1950s, with only an estimated 21,000 remaining in all of Africa.
