Species: Shaheen Falcon | Location: Damodar River, Barddhaman, West Bengal, India
The shaheen falcon is very rare in India and is usually seen as a solitary bird or in pairs on the cliffs and rock pinnacles. It is adapted to taking prey in the air and can achieve a speed of 240kmh in level flight. I was taking photos of kentish plover on the river bed. Suddenly all the little birds fly away, seeing this raptor hovering over them. I was quite nervous to see this predator at just 20m away, but I slowly moved towards him to capture this beauty. Avoiding me, he was busy hunting little plovers.
