Species: Royal Penguin | Location: Macquarie Island, Australia
I was on a trip to the New Zealand sub-Antarctic Islands plus Macquarie Island. We were extremely lucky with weather at Macquarie as it was windy, but sunny and relatively warm. We were given the entire afternoon to hang out with the penguins (Royal and/or King). Royal Penguins only breed on this island. I headed up to the Royal Penguin colony and just watched for several minutes. I finally saw a penguin that looked like it had a young baby. The baby emerged from underneath the adult and asked for food. I was able to capture (after a couple of tries) the baby receiving food from the adult. They had to be quick as there were numerous skua's hanging out, just waiting for a meal of baby penguin.

About The Photographer
I'm an avid traveler who is trying to see as many areas of the world as possible. My goal is to see these environments before they are significantly impacted by climate change. I was shooting Nikon, but switched to Canon in 2014. Macros of flowers and plants were my first SLR subjects, but once I purchased longer lenses I've added birds, mammals and pretty much anything that moves. After each trip I make presentations in the local community, to try to build awareness of these areas and the issues that they face. Hopefully this will encourage more people to contribute to the support of these fragile environments.
