Species: Wolf | Location: Yellowstone National Park, United States
This week marks the twentieth anniversary of the re-introduction of wolves into Yellowstone National Park. Today, over 1,600 wolves thrive in the Northern Rocky Mountains. Ecologically, the wolves' return has begun to restore balance to an ecosystem thrown off-kilter in the absence of its apex predator. Culturally, the wolves' return has proven that wildlife management conflicts in the 21st century can be solved through careful coexistence instead of outright extermination.
