Species: African Elephant | Location: Chobe River, Botswana

While on a boat out of Botswana, cruising the Chobe River we encountered a group of elephants coming down to the river for a drink. This family group included a young elephant who was just figuring out how to drink and was clearly following the cue of its elders.

About The Photographer

Cropped steve jacana

I've been taking photographs for most of my life, introduced to it by my father on a 35mm Voigtlander back in the 60s. I've continued throughout the heyday of the film era and upon retirement have begun to get serious again. I have really enjoyed the switch to digital and the possibilities it opens up. As a professional biologist, my interest has always been photographing animals. A recent trip to Africa provided the impetus to upgrade my camera and lens (all Canon) and I'm enjoying it more than ever!
