Antler Velvet

Species: Elk | Location: Rocky Mountains, United States of America

I was driving around on vacation with my family in the Colorado Rocky Mountains when we came across this elk trying to get the velvet off of its antlers. We enjoyed watching him for at least a half-hour before he headed off into the woods. It was one of the highlights of our trip.

About The Photographer

I have been an amateur photographer for at least 40 years. I got the bug when my sorority sister introduced me to the life of photography through the lens of her SLR. Lucky for me, my husband decided long ago that cameras and lenses make great birthday and Christmas presents. I have enjoyed being not only the family photographer, but also getting out into nature to capture wildlife at its best. When I am not taking pictures on a vacations with my husband and kids, I most often get out with my sister-in-law who enjoys photographing nature as much as I do. There is nothing more relaxing to me than a day outside with my camera.
