Species: Transient Alaskan Orca T073B | Location: Comox Marina, Canada
This transient orca has been feeding in the Comox Bay on the east coast of Vancouver Island for about a week and a half. On this day he was playing with a round buoy - pulling it under water then letting it pop up again. He got so excited that he took a huge leap and I was able to capture the breach. Experts are wondering why he hasn't re-joined his pod by now. BC Day organizers are planning for ways to protect this incredible endangered mammal during celebrations. Locals call him Kwenis.
About The Photographer
I am an amateur photographer from the Comox Valley on Vancouver Island. My subjects are mostly birds, but living on the West Coast I have an abundance of opportunities to capture marine life.
