Species: Polar Bears | Location: Churchil, Manitoba, Canada
We were in Churchill, Manitoba with Natural Habitat Adventures in November 2017 to see and photograph polar bears as they waited for the ice to form on Hudson Bay. Unfortunately, the water froze before we arrived and the bears were out on the ice and inaccessible with the rovers. On the last day of our trip, NHA kindly provided helicopters for us and we were able to see and photograph bears on the ice. This pair may have been getting acquainted or about to settle a territorial dispute. We'll never know.

Gene Howard has been photographing wildlife, with an emphasis on birds, for many years. He is active in the Augusta. Ga - Aiken SC Audubon Society. He and his wife Joan have watched and photographed wildlife in a variety of US and international venues. Gene also photographs stage productions in local theaters and the orchids he grows in his greenhouse.
