Species: Black rhino | Location: southern Kalahari, South Africa
Here a black rhino munches on some twigs. Black rhino are browsers and not grazers like their cousins, the white rhinos. An analysis of their spoor reveals twigs bitten off at a 45 degree angle. They are so rare now, in keeping with guidelines, I no longer reveal exact locations.

About The Photographer
Started during military service with an old Kodak Retina...continued through the years. Love the wild places free of humans and roads, where encounters with wildlife are often sudden and laden with serendipity. I have published in the occasional magazine and book. My first excursion to Africa was in the early eighties. I remember driving myself along the Mara River in Kenya. The place was completely devoid of humans...not a single tourist truck crossed my path, allowing me to enjoy the wildebeest and zebras during their crossing. Those years are gone, but the memories engage my thoughts now and again. Africa is so changed now, and crowded. I still travel there every year, entranced by the animals.
