The Black Noddy is sooty black in color with a white cap and has reddish brown legs and feet and their bills droop slightly. Their flight is swift with rapid wing beats. They forage near shore making shallow dives. They breed year round and pairs return to the same nest year after year. There are approximately 12,000 breeding pairs in Hawaii. Their worldwide population is estimated at 1,000,000 to 1,500,000 breeding pairs.
