Hippopotamus, Zambezi River, near Impallila Island, Namibia
Solitary Juvenile

Species: Hippopotamus | Location: Zambezi River, near Impallila Island, Namibia

Rounding a bend in the Zambezi River in a small motor boat, the boatman, guide and I were astonished to see this youngster grazing by himself in the early afternoon. Scanning for signs of the mother and herd, we lingered to watch the youngster watch us, graze a little more then charge bravely towards us and into the safety of water.
