2017 Wildlife Photo Contest

Sumatran Orangutan (Pongo abelii), Gunung Leuser National Park, Indonesia
Halik

Species: Sumatran Orangutan (Pongo abelii) | Location: Gunung Leuser National Park, Indonesia

In Gunung Leuser National Park, they reintroduce orangutans to the wild. Halik was reintroduced in the mid-90s, and hadn't been seen in this area of the park for years before he showed up to court a young female in heat. He stopped to check us out, and relaxed along the side of the path, posing for photo after photo.
