Baby Beluga whales are born black and turn pure white after about 3 years. They stay with their mothers during this period. The photo is of an immature beluga whale which is grey, riding along side its mother which is white. The photo was taken on the Churchill River in July 2015 in Churchill, Manitoba, Canada while riding in a Zodiac craft.
