2017 Wildlife Photo Contest

Red Fox (dark phase), Washington State, United States of America
Rabbit Lunch

Species: Red Fox (dark phase) | Location: Washington State, United States of America

This photo was all about patience. I spent about 3 hours with this mother fox, her eventually allowing me to get closer and closer. Soon her posture changed and I knew something was up when she all of a sudden pounced into a hole in the ground. She soon after emerged with this little bunny in her mouth, food for her 5 kits close by. As she left, she gave me this look, straight into the camera, as if proudly showing me her catch - UNREAL!
