Species: Rough Legged Hawk | Location: West Valley Area, Kalispell, MT, United States of America
I was scouting out the wetland areas for a non-profit that I photograph with and had stopped the car to scan some frozen ponds. The car was turned off and my drivers door window was down and all of a sudden this 'guy' came flying in and landed on a fence post that was less than 15 feet from the car. I felt for sure that if I made a lot of commotion fiddling around for my camera (even though it was on the passenger seat right next to me) that he would take off, so I just relaxed and looked at his beauty and absorbed the event. After a few minutes, I figured I would try, slowly, to get my camera and lens out the window to get a photo. Surprisingly, he didn't spook and just continued to 'pose' for me for several minutes. It was an awesome experience!
