During an afternoon game drive in Masai Mara, we were lucky enough to see a lioness hunt from start to finish. We were well positioned to observe the drama from a higher viewpoint and without obstruction. The lioness approached a herd of drinking wildebeest causing a huge panic and the herd scattered in all directions. She followed a group going uphill and picked out one of the smaller ones and brought it down. The entire episode lasted, according to my camera log, for no more than 32 seconds. The photo shows the terror in the eyes of the unfortunate victim.
