Species: Alaska Brown Bear | Location: McNeil River State Game Sanctuary and Refuge, United States of America
Baby bears!! Need I say more? I was with a group at the McNeil River State Game Sanctuary and Refuge. It was the end of the day and we were headed back to camp. We were on a rocky beach and from around the corner ahead of us came a mama bear and two cubs of the year. We backed up against the rock wall and stood very still. The mama and cubs walked right in front of us. Then a most remarkable thing happened. She left the cubs on the shore near us as she went into the bay to fish. The cubs looked at us for a while and then started to walk down the beach. Their mother was out in the water calling to them as they moved away from us. What an encounter!!
