Koala, Great Otway National Park, Australia
Eucalyptus Embrace

Species: Koala | Location: Great Otway National Park, Australia

My husband and I took a fantastic trip to Australia. We saw Koalas in the animal parks and I even got to hold one! I really, really wanted to see some of the Australia animals out in the wild. We rented a campervan and drove south from Sydney to Melbourne. Along the way we stopped in areas where the maps showed a possibility of Koala sightings. We caught glimpses of the elusive creatures high up the eucalyptus trees. I was totally happy! As we were driving south we decided to take the Lighthouse Road through the Great Otway National Park to see the lighthouse. No more than 15 minutes later we began to spot dark shapes in the trees. A few minutes later, we realized there were Koalas in the trees all around us. This time they weren't just round blobs up in the trees. They were down where we could really see them. It was spectacular. We spent over an hour just looking at them and taking photos. Sometimes taking a turn at random can be more than you ever expected!!
