2017 Wildlife Photo Contest

Common Loon, Killarney area, Ontario, Canada
Black fly season can make you Loonie

Species: Common Loon | Location: Killarney area, Ontario, Canada

I was out enjoying a late afternoon pontoon boat ride and was going just fast enough to stay ahead of those pesky black flies, when I spotted a loon who appeared to be grooming itself and was able to take a few quick photos as I went by. When I looked at the images later on my computer I thought; 'Wow, my lens must have been really dirty, look at all those dust spots.' When I zoomed in for a closer look, the suspected dust spots were clearly black flies and this poor Loon must have been going loonie.
