Burrowing Owl, Marco Island, Florida, United States of America
Family Portrait

Species: Burrowing Owl | Location: Marco Island, Florida, United States of America

Burrowing owls nest in specific areas of Florida, including residential areas on Marco Island. In this small, but highly populated community, empty lots serve as nesting locations for the owls. This spring I observed one particular family of owls as the chicks grew and eventually fledged. This image shows three of the four siblings that nicely posed for a portrait shot.

About The Photographer

Cropped portrait
Throughout my life, I have always found time to go into the wilderness. In 1997, my career led me to Miami. I began exploring the wilderness areas of south Florida and experiencing their amazing wildlife by way of canoe. As the canoe was essential to my wilderness explorations, the camera soon followed. Interestingly, I never realized until I became a photographer that art played a significant role in my life. Starting at a young age, I dabbled in music and drawing; but I never considered photography because of the expense of camera equipment. My eventual investment in cameras began as a way to record my wilderness trips, but soon grew into a passion that allowed my artistic side to develop. At last, I had found a way to combine my love of nature with my love of art.
