2017 Wildlife Photo Contest

Western Grebe, Klamath Falls, Oregon, United States of America
Dancing Western Grebes

Species: Western Grebe | Location: Klamath Falls, Oregon, United States of America

While called a "dance" the Western Grebe actually runs on water as part of its mating ritual. Their feet move at 1200 times per minute to lift them out of the water. Here I caught them coming toward the camera, red eyes shining, one foot captured as it came above the waterline.

About The Photographer

There's nothing I love more than connecting with wildlife by observing them through the lens of a camera. Animals surprise me. The beauty of birds and reptiles are like nature had fun with her color box. My main focus is on travel photography but luckily that takes me to places with wonderful creatures.
