american white pelican, Last Mountain Lake National Wildlife Area, Saskatchewan, Canada
Tangled Strangled Dying

Species: american white pelican | Location: Last Mountain Lake National Wildlife Area, Saskatchewan, Canada

Tangled in discarded fishing line, this american white pelican is unable to open its bill to eat. Schools of fish swim tantalizing under its feet but it can not join the rest of the flock in feeding. With luck its horn will fall off releasing the fishing line before it is too late.

Taken at Last Mountain Lake Wildlife Area. Established in 1887 this was the first federal bird sanctuary in North America.
