2017 Wildlife Photo Contest

Species: Alaskan Brown Bear | Location: Kodiak Island Wildlife Refuge, United States of America

Early mornings are my favorite time to capture wildlife photographs. I was lucky on this morning to watch a sub adult brown bear catch a red salmon and bring it up on a backlit river bank for consumption. After the meal, the bear rewarded me with a beautiful shower of water that was captured perfectly by the morning sun.

I grew up on the outskirts of Yellowstone National Park but have lived in or near Kodiak, AK for the last 30 years. Watching and photographing nature and its many forms of wildlife has been a passion and pursuit for years.
