Species: Mountain Gorilla | Location: Virunga Mountains, Rwanda
A young gorilla savoring stinging nettle. We met this youngster while on a trek up the Virunga mountains in Rwanda.
This particular gorilla group was very hard to reach, as they moved quite a distance from where the trackers thought they would be - to reach them, we had to climb a lot higher than we expected, and then, since we weren't as nimble as these gentle mountain giants, end by gingerly clambering across a steep cliff face, and descending into a deep valley - the hard part was getting back out again after our precious hour with the gorillas ended!
This fellow especially savored the taste of stinging nettle that the rest of us were swearing at, as it stung us with every step on the trek up the mountain to find this gorilla troop!
