This picture of a mother and baby elephant was shot in Botswana not long after a bush fire had gone through and left a grey forest behind.

It was a perfect setup for a black and White photo.

About The Photographer

Earl Hirtz is a wildlife photographer and outdoor enthusiast based in Vancouver, Canada. His lifelong fascination with the natural world has led him to Alaska, Africa and beyond. When he's not planning his next adventure, he can usually be found photographing herons and eagles on the coast of his native British Columbia, or polishing his latest woodworking project. Whether he's capturing images of wild lions in Tanzania or photographing his dog Izzie from the bow of his boat on the Sunshine Coast, his dedication and affection for nature is unmistakable.
