Juvenile Cooper's Hawk, Gunnison County, Colorado, United States of America
Christmas Hawk

Species: Juvenile Cooper's Hawk | Location: Gunnison County, Colorado, United States of America

Based on my research after the fact, I believe this is a juvenile Cooper's Hawk. It stunned itself against my parents' picture window on Christmas Day. When we realized it hadn't broken its neck, I threw on my coat and went out with a towel and my camera.

Everyone who had gathered for Christmas got to see it up close, a rare opportunity outside of an raptor educational preserve or presentation.

Fortunately, it wasn't seriously injured and I had the opportunity to get several shots before it recovered enough to fly away.
