Polar Bear (ursus maritimus), Wapusk National Park, Manitoba, Canada
Double Trouble

Species: Polar Bear (ursus maritimus) | Location: Wapusk National Park, Manitoba, Canada

Emerging from their dens in early March, young cubs begin to stretch their legs and get stronger so that soon they can make the long journey to the sea ice. Polar bears only den to have cubs (not to hibernate), so mother is anxious to get back to hunting seals soon. For now she rests while her playful cubs show off for the camera! Fighting frostbite and frozen camera gear this photographer worked all day in -40C conditions kneeling from ground level for this shot.
