Purple Gallinule, Everglades National Park, United States of America
Gallivanting Gallinule

Species: Purple Gallinule | Location: Everglades National Park, United States of America

The Purple Gallinule, a species I lovingly refer to as 'rainbow chickens', is by far my favorite bird of Florida. With range across small portions of the southern U.S. and down through the southern Americas I've only ever encountered them while exploring deep into the heart of The Everglades and surrounding natural preserves. Light of foot they race across floating plants such as this bird who I captured striking a pose even as huge toothy alligators lounged nearby.
