Manatee, Crystal River, Florida, United States of America
Manatee Mirror

Species: Manatee | Location: Crystal River, Florida, United States of America

During the winter months manatees migrate up riverways to warmer inland natural springs of Florida. I had been planning this trip for some time as it is one of the few places in the world where one can still swim with them. As multiple manatees swam by me I free dove to better photograph their movements underwater while being careful not to get too close. This particular manatee left a marvelous reflection of itself in the crystal clear pools as it surfaced momentarily for a breath of air. I saw maybe a dozen this trip while camping nearby though know that they can number in groups of dozens in this same spot later in season. Such a magical experience to swim among friendly sea cows.
