Species: Alaskan Brown Bear (Ursus arctos), Sockeye Salmon (Oncorhynchus nerka) | Location: Katmai National Park, United States of America
Alaskan Brown Bear cubs leave their mother to fend for themselves at about 2-3 years of age. This 2 year cub was still with its mother but was now learning to hunt for itself. It was fascinating to watch the different methods of hunting by watching the sow, which used a more wait for the perfect moment approach, rather than the cub, which ran around aimlessly and would occasionally catch a meal. During this moment, the salmon took a leap out of the water in a desperate attempt to escape the cub but in the end it wasn't enough.
About The Photographer
Photography and film are large mediums which bring adventure and wonder to our living rooms. My personal goal is to share images of the natural world for the purpose of conservation and education. With wildlife photography, I believe it's important to share more than just a pretty picture. Informing the audience of the biology relating to the subject and the role it plays in its ecosystem bridges gaps and builds connections with nature.Follow Dan on Instagram: @www.instagram.com/dan_mele_photography/
