Species: African Lion | Location: Kruger National PArk, South Africa
This photograph was taken in Kruger National Park. A hoard of cars was parked next to a female lion lounging under a tree. I caught the lion as she walked through the traffic jam, without regard for the humans around her. At the time, I was studying the complex artificiality of natural reserves in South Africa with a journalism course. Privatization of all South Africa's land has created strange, fascinating and often harmful results. Even in the vast Kruger National Park, animals are restricted to smaller areas than their nature demands. Meanwhile certain humans, especially black native South Africans, have been historically restricted from entering parks.
