Chelonia mydas, Florida Keys, United States of America
Last Breath

Species: Chelonia mydas | Location: Florida Keys, United States of America

This girl swam to shore, only to pass shortly after. The tumors that litter her body are called fibropapilloma (fibro for short). Fibro is cause by toxins in the water. Mainly flowing from heavily used marinas and inlets. It is more commonly seen in turtles residing in warmer water. Once infected the tumors will grow relatively fast within a year or two infecting mainly the eyes and any soft tissue it can target.
