California sheephead, Casino Point, United States of America
Curiosity

Species: California sheephead | Location: Casino Point, United States of America

A California sheephead checks out a visitor to his kelp forest home. Although this male has a very distinctive red and black coloration now, this was not always the case. All sheephead are actually born female, and some will undergo a transformation to end up looking like the male we see here.
