Species: Common Loon, Gavia immer | Location: Sturgeon Lake, Kawartha Lakes, Ontario, Canada
While out canoeing on my local lake early one morning I had come across this mom and baby loon. I had made the 1 hour paddle back to my cottage to get my camera gear and decided to head back to see if I could get a few pictures. This was the first time I had ever seen a baby loon and was totally amazed by it, I knew I had to capture a few shots to share with my family and friends. The first time I had seen them the baby was swimming on its own but when I had returned it was no where to be found. After getting within 100 feet of the loon I had noticed the baby was riding on the mothers back. What a priceless moment this was to experience.
