Traveling by flat-bottom boat in Botswana's Okavango Delta, we turned a blind corner and came upon this solitary African elephant bull peacefully eating reedlike grass that grows plentiful in the delta. Our guide immediately cut the engine. Awestruck, we floated wordlessly past, his eyes on us, ours on him.
