Sea Turtle, Tortuguero, Costa Rica
Final Look

Species: Sea Turtle | Location: Tortuguero, Costa Rica

We were taking the scenic route back to our boat along the beach in Tortuguero, in Costa Rica, when we noticed there was small gathering of people looking into the trees. As we approached, we could see a small baby sea turtle emerging from the woods and making its way to the beach toward the sea. As this was winter and not hatching season, it was quite a surprise. Also, it was just at dusk and night that dark yet which also made it surprising. However, there it was. Determined to make it across the beach to the ocean... which it did. I was mesmerized and overjoyed to witness this event. Just then, another baby sea turtle came out of the woods and started its journey to the see. This one too made it in a relatively rapid dash. This family wasn't done. One more baby emerged. However, this one accidentally took a different path which turned out to be much more challenging. Already tired, this baby turtle rested a bit before each surge. In this shot, it was the last rest before making the last spring to the ocean
