Fossa, Kirindy Forest Preserve, Madagascar
Fossa checking for who has been in the neighborhood

Species: Fossa | Location: Kirindy Forest Preserve, Madagascar

Fossa, which are most closely related to a mongoose, have learned to hide in the safety of the Kirindy Forest Reserve (they would be killed if they stray out of the protected areas since they hunt and kill the locals chickens). They have been observed mating in the trees around the Lodge. This fossa is checking out who has been in the vicinity recently since both males and females mark the trees with their scents.

About The Photographer

Cropped scratching the chin of a grey whale
Since retiring, I have been very fortunate to be able to travel and interact with wildlife throughout the world. To me, it is the interaction that is most important (i.e.. looking into the eyes of a wild animal or even scratching the chin of a whale in Baja that chose to come to meet you), the pictures allow me to remember and further enjoy this opportunity to see and observe a wild animal.
