Mountain Bongo, Mt Kenya Animal Orphanage, Kenya
Endangered Bongo

Species: Mountain Bongo | Location: Mt Kenya Animal Orphanage, Kenya

Mountain Bongos are an endangered species that are currently being bred in the Mt Kenya Conservancy in hopes to be put back into the wild. Hunters and poachers almost killed off the species until the William Holden Wildlife Foundation brought attention to the issue. The foundation led by Actress Stefanie Powers after William Holden's death has spend many years not only educating thousands upon thousands of local Kenyan children on the importance of conservation of the land and animals but has also taken part of the breeding program in many zoos in the US to increasing the numbers of these beautiful Mountain Bongos.
