Species: Red Fox | Location: Washington State, United States of America
Through my binoculars in the distance I saw a Silver Fox and a few kits out from the den. I found a place to observe them closer and waited for some time before I was able to see the kits come out again. In the years I have observed these foxes I have never seen a fox with so many kits. They kept coming out to the point where I lost count after 10 because they were moving so fast which also made them difficult to photograph.
Silver Foxes are Red Foxes and their offspring usually have different colored coats but I had never seen a kit that was grey. There were 2 of them and they were so tiny, their eyes still blue as mom had only just brought them out of the den. Such a surprise for me to see so many fox pups and to see a different variation in their coat.
They were all fighting for mom's attention and looking at them all I could see a difference in size between the youngsters. I watched mom nurse them and there were so many kits she could only keep 3 legs on the ground while nursing. The kits were a mix of black, grey and red but the 2 grey kits stuck together. They were so adorable they almost looked like kittens with their still fuzzy fur and blue eyes.
One of the cutest things I have ever witnessed through my viewfinder.
