2017 Wildlife Photo Contest

Polar Bear, Wapusk National Park, Manitoba, Canada
Polar bear with cub(s)

Species: Polar Bear | Location: Wapusk National Park, Manitoba, Canada

There are actually 2 cubs in my image, though you can barely (or bearly!) see the second cub. Just a sliver of its head and back are visible. Note how you cannot see below the one cub's eyes. His/her sibling is in front of this cub. Mama bear found this out-cropping of spruce trees to get out of the wind and nurse her cubs. Temperature outside was minus 25 F. This DID NOT include wind chill. Time of day was roughly 2pm.
