Species: Lions, and Cape Buffalo | Location: Ruaha National Park, Sand River, Tanzania, United Republic of
This was one of the most amazing experiences we have ever had while traveling in Africa. While on our evening drive our guide stopped by a dry river bed and we watched a pride of Lionesses and their cubs stalk a herd of Cape Buffalo grazing. The 3 of the Lionesses went in for the attack the herd started to run kicking up dust. Very soon after they started to run away the Buffalo stopped in their tracks, and made an about turn snorting and chasing the Lionesses. The most amazing thing happened once the dust cleared and it was obvious the Lions had won the fight seizing 2 baby buffalo. A large Male Lion sauntered out of the bushes not more than 25 feet behind us to enjoy the feast!
