Resplendent Quetzal, Oak Cloud Forest Talamanaca Mountains, Costa Rica
The Holy Grail

Species: Resplendent Quetzal | Location: Oak Cloud Forest Talamanaca Mountains, Costa Rica

The Resplendent Quetzal is one of the most beautiful birds in the America's and is threatened with declining numbers. Bird enthusiasts all over the world travel to Costa Rica to see these birds in their natural habitat without success. We were extremely lucky to be able to photograph a pair of Quetzal's coming and going from their nest high in the Talamanaca Mountains Oak Cloud Forest of Costa Rica. This image is a male flying to the nest with food for the chicks.

About The Photographer

Through photography I have found my passion for life. Experiencing the grandeur of nature, the many sounds, smells, and behaviors of wildlife in their natural habitat is a thrill beyond description. I have been very fortunate to have the opportunity to visit wildlife in their natural homes, without any invitation. I am lifelong Midwesterner, currently living along the Mississippi River on the Iowa and Illinois state border. I had various involvement with photography starting in the 1970’s, and continue to improve my skills over the years.
