Species: Grizzly Bear | Location: Great Bear Rain Forest, British Columbia, Canada
Photo of young female grizzly taken from a small boat while on a tour based out of Great Bear Lodge, Smith Inlet, British Columbia.
The headwaters of this particular estuary have received protection as a conservation area (no hunting of grizzly bears is allowed). As a result the bears are more relaxed re human presence as well as being focused on eating the luxuriant sedge grass that forms their main food source in the springtime.
Hopefully more estuaries in the Great Bear Rain Forest will receive this level of protection, and ecotourism wins the day as an economic activity over commercial hunting.
